Connecticut Energy Storage Solutions
Another benefit to solar with storage in Connecticut
Having solar with battery storage in Connecticut just got even more rewarding. We are an approved partner of the CT ESS program administered by the Connecticut Green Bank (CGB) along with Connecticut's regulated electric distribution companies, Eversource Energy (Eversource) and The United Illuminating Company (UI). This program will help alleviate grid strain through home battery owners using and sharing stored solar energy when electricity demand is highest.
What you’ll get
• $150-175 every year you participate for five years
• The gratification of supporting your community by reducing grid strain and the need for fossil fuel plants
How it works
Use & store shared power
Your battery will send power to your home and (when available) to the grid on days when there is high demand in the summer and winter seasons.
Keep power for backup
When you use and share stored power for this program, you’ll keep 20% of your battery capacity for backup. And–in the event of an outage–you won’t send any energy to the grid.
Get rewarded
Receive a $150 VISA Gift Card in December following every summer you participate and a $25 VISA Gift Card in May following every winter you participate.
How to enroll
Eligible customers with an active Sunrun solar and battery system will receive an email and/or call providing program and enrollment information.

FAQs
How long does the program last?
This program will last for at least five years with the current reward values. If you enroll and later change your mind, you can opt out at any time by emailing grid@sunrun.com.
When will my battery power my home or share with the grid for this program?
On 30 to 60 days in the summer (between June 1 and September 30) and 1 to 5 days in the winter (between November 1 and March 31) when grid demand is high, your battery will send energy to your home and (when available) share to the local grid. This will happen in the timeframe of 12-9pm for up to 3 hours on any given day.
Can I still use my battery system for backup power if there’s an outage?
Yes. On most days, your battery will keep all stored power for backup. On the days of high demand when you use or share stored power, your home battery will always reserve at least 20% capacity for backup needs. Sunrun watches storms closely, and has set up a weather readiness setting integrated into this program. If there is an upcoming outage or storm we can track, your battery will retain its power to prepare. In the event of a power outage, your battery will not send any energy to the grid.
Can I opt out after I’ve signed up for this program?
Yes, you can opt out any time by emailing Sunrun’s Grid Services team at grid@sunrun.com. If you opt out of the CT ESS program, you will no longer receive the VISA Gift Cards.
